Ngare Ndare Forest Hike

nn8

Ngare Ndare being located more than 5 hours away from Nairobi past Nanyuki town, off Meru-Nanyuki highway. We left Nairobi at 5.00am so that we could have sufficient time to get to the forest. The hike takes place within the forest that is under Kenya Wildlife Service hence we had an armed ranger.

We only encountered giraffes on our way before entering the forest and saw bushbucks while hiking. Though we did not encounter other wildlife, we could see the elephant footpaths and dung, rhino territory marked by its dung and many others.

Some of the best swimming locations in the Kenyan North can be found at Ngare Ndare Forest and in the right weather, the water can look a beautiful turquoise color. Not only that, but the cool waters are also a welcome relief from the hot hike through the hills and depressions of the forest.

We had to first get into the turquoise pool before it’s disturbed, and the view is amazing.

The turquoise pool is surround by the large rocks making the place look like the bath tub. We could see the elephants’ footsteps since this is one of their watering point.

Swimming at the turquoise pool just to get the experience. Being in the forest, the water was cool but not freezing. It is deep and wide enough to allow for diving.

Due to the draught the forest cover was not very dense at the time of our visit.
