Thompson Falls
Thomson’s falls is located in Nyahururu, Laikipia County in Central Kenya, approximately 4 hours’ drive from Nairobi. Nyahururu town is surrounded by beautiful agricultural lands as the region benefits from high rainfall throughout the year.
The scenic Thomson’s Falls is situated on the Nyahururu outskirts about 3 kilometres from the town. It is about 74 meters high on the Ewaso Nyiro river which drains from the Aberdare mountain ranges.
There is a public park around the water fall where they charge a small entry fee to view.
The sounds of the waters falling can be heard from the distance as you approach the park.
Aside from the soothing sounds of the falling water, is the beautiful rainbow it forms as the wind and sunrays collide.
Another attraction is the large number of baboons around the park that feed on the trees surrounding the water fall.
Visitors can see the falls from above (there are various view point erected by the county government) but there is also a path towards the bottom of the fall assessable through a set of winding steps with proper rail guards for support. Visitors get to have a perfect view of the water falls from above or alternatively can follow the trail down to the bottom of the fall for a closer look.
