Mt Kenya Wildlife Conservancy
Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy (MKWC) is a not for profit organization dedicated to the Conservation of Wildlife in Kenya. It is nestled at the foot of Mount Kenya forest ecosystem in Nanyuki town off Meru-Nanyuki road.
Their vision is to conserve wildlife species in Kenya with a keen focus on the critically endangered Mountain Bongo by maintaining sustainable captive breeding herds for reintroduction into the wild & promoting species research.
The Animal Orphanage located within the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, is a unique facility to give orphaned, injured, neglected, abused, or frightened wild animals a second chance. The Orphanage provides shelter and professional care with the aim of releasing these animals back into the wild where they belong.
Gazelles, warthog, ostrich, syke monkeys, llama, bushbacks, tortoise and ducks roam about the grounds since they are harmless.
The Columbus monkey was gracious enough to allow me to take a perfect shot. They also have baboons, syke monkeys and a variety of other monkeys.
I found these Llama from South Africa very fascinating due to their size and mild temperament. They have two in black and white color
The dwarf antelopes which lives only for 9 years. These are 7 years old and their existence is threatened in the forest due to their body size.
The orphanage has 3 cheeters and 2 leopards but the leopards had hidden on top of the acacia trees
There are porcupines and other creatures of the rat family within the conservancy
There plenty of Egyptian goose that enjoy the greenery and the swim along the stream and pools of water within the conservancy.
