Ngong Road Forest Santuary
Only 6 kilometres from Nairobi’s central business district, the forest is managed by the Kenya Forest Service and the Ngong Road Forest Association. It is home to a community of animals, reptiles and amphibians. Animals found in the forest include; duikers, bush bucks, bush pigs, warthogs, porcupines, bush babies, monkeys, baboons etc. It’s ideal for picnic (there is a section set aside for picnics and children playing area), nature walks, jogging, running, cycling.
The entrance is off Ngong road just after the Jamhuri Sports Ground but before the Southern bypass.
The paths are well marked, indicating the distance between one point to the next. It a serene environment for a solo walk, run or even biking.
This time we were making a 5km walk in a group of like-minded people. The organizer had dubbed it “walk in silence”. Its fit for those would be scared to walk alone but do not want small talk. The rustling of the trees, the fresh air and the serenity provided a good environment for self-reflection.
